ONE MONTH TO LIVE Week 2 – Deepening Relationships that Matter Most Teach us to make the most of our time, so that we may grow in wisdom (Psalm 90:12). - Determine to live with passion - Define your “one month” values - Depend on God’s power to live out the values As [Jesus] was speaking the teachers of religious law and Pharisees brought a woman they had caught in adultery. They put her in front of the crowd. “Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman this woman was caught in the very act of adultery. The Law of Moses says to stone her. What do You say?” They were trying to trap Him into saying something they could use against Him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with His finger. They kept demanding an answer, so He stood up again and said, “All right, stone her. But let those who have never sinned throw the first stones!” Then He stooped down again and wrote in the dust. When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman Then Jesus stood up again and said to her, “Woman, where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” “No, Lord!” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more” (John 8:3-11). Guilty & exposed “I was wrong” Guilty with no accountability “I got away with it” Holier than thou “I didn’t do anything wrong” Judgmental pile on “I can’t believe he/she…” BIG [picture]: I need relationships even though they are messy Admit and list my own faults “And why worry about the speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? How can you think of saying, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye?” (Matthew 7:3-4) Who are significant people in my life? Let these people know they’re significant. ME [practical]: I WANT TO BE CHARACTERIZED BY LOVE Dear children, let us stop just saying we love each other; let us really show it by our actions (1 John 3:18). Master the small acts What is their primary “love language”? Acts of service Quality Time Physical touch Receiving gifts Words of affirmation Who do I need to “clean things up” with? God [power]: I can love like I’m forgiven You must make allowance for each other’s faults and forgive the person who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you so you must forgive others (Colossians 3:13). Additional scripture to study 1 Samuel 15:25, Luke 17:3, Hebrews 8:12, James 5:15, James 1:9
